David Cameron & Winsford MP Stephen O’Brien pay tribute to the Salt Union & people of Winsford during Stephen's visit to the Winsford Rock Salt Mines

As workers at the Salt Union work around the clock to help keep Cheshire and Britain moving, Winsford MP & Shadow Health Minister Stephen O’Brien paid a special visit to the Winsford rock salt mine on Friday 8th January, when he met with the Managing Director, Harold James, members of the management team and the work force.

During Stephen O’Brien’s meeting with the Managing Director, Mr James received a telephone call from David Cameron, Leader of the Conservative Party who joined with the Winsford MP in paying tribute to the hard work and commitment of the entire workforce at the Salt Union.

Winsford MP Stephen O’Brien said: “David Cameron recognises, as I do, just how important the work of the Salt Union is in keeping our area and the whole of Britain safe and moving during these arctic like conditions, the worst for 20 years. He thanked Harold James and the entire workforce at the Salt Union for their hard work and commitment explaining that without their steadfastness and resolve to work around the clock Britain would simply grind to a halt. David also thanked the people of Winsford and those living nearby for their patience as HGVs transporting the rock salt also work 24/7 to meet the massive increase in demand.

“I am sure that all my constituents and many more people across the country, including local authority highways departments, will join with me and David Cameron in paying tribute to the workforce at the Salt Union.

“The Salt Union deserves our full support and congratulations for their herculean efforts in this vital enterprise.

“The entire workforce at the Salt Union are a credit to themselves, Winsford, Cheshire and Britain. Both I and David Cameron extend our thanks to each and everyone of them.”
